That's a good point--Saito could have been anyone, really. But it's also sad that it impresses us--I remember liking the few minutes of screen time John Cho got in the American Pie movies and being really disgusted I noticed it.

Funnily, I didn't remember while watching Inception that Saito is the name of the Japanese general in Bridge on the River Kwai, which I just saw again last night.
