For those of you what didn't see it everywhere already...
I am pleased and proud to announce the opening of The Fifth Cellar, a new, all-inclusive Phantom fiction archive. Our goal is to create a home for all types of quality Phantom fiction, searchable by canon, characters, and many other genres and story types. It's in its infancy, so feel free to make suggestions, but most of all I hope you join and post and review others' writing.
I know there have been a few archives before this, and you've probably posted your fic other places only to have it disappear. Please consider this my vow of commitment to this project and to making a good archive fun. All kinds of stories are welcome!
Please join us.

Would it be possible to put a link on the forum page or something? There looks to be one at the bottom of some of the pages, but it just goes back to the main site.

Great that you're going public with it: I peeked in and you already are gathering content. There may be some from the ongoing www.mortrouge.com contest you may want to invite as well.

And I'll drop in to the contest site, too. Thanks.

P.S. A suggestion
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Yeah, I don't know. But I guess one of the things I love about the fandom is that so much of the fic is archetypal more than anything else (even when it sucks). The only ties to any canon are the names and roles of the characters, sometimes, and then why pick Leroux over anything else?
I think I'd split out alternate ending and sequel (and to me, an alternate ending goes most of the way through canon before diverging; an alternate universe in this context looks like my "spies" example; so where would a story that diverges, say, in Persia fit?). Tagging and categorization is always so subjective, though (I wonder how an archive with tagging by both authors and readers would work? Could be interesting. Could be unusable).
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Alternate ending/sequel... I had these separate initially, until someone convinced me that there wasn't a material difference between tacking on a different/net ending and writing a sequel. In our minds, the alternate ending didn't contain most of canon. In my mind, Kissing the Frog is an alternate ending--Christine comes back. That's it.
AU would definitely be the "spies" idea, or that one where they're in a POW camp in Vietnam or something (seriously).
I'm not sure where Persia would fit.
I'm thinking about all of this, thank you.
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Oooh, also: while I don't think any fic exists yet, it SHOULD: does Terry Pratchett's Maskerade count as a "version"? (I don't know if it should, but I want to encourage fic, yes yes).
*off to register, post lonely fic, and play around*
Re: P.S. A suggestion
I think we're lumping differently, here. I hadn't considered "a sequel to an alternate ending" but rather "a sequel that continues from the end or an alternate ending that diverges from shortly before the end" and those things seem more similar than different.
Argh!
You know, part of my impulse to do this *is* my cataloging nature (it's my RL job, after all) but that doesn't make it terribly simple. I think I want to give people the options, to use or not, as they wish. And I am very much in to multiple tagging. But I don't want to subdivide too heavily, lest the scheme become too specific and unusable.
I'll add Maskerade.
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Yes, exactly. I'm sorry if I'm making this too confusing!
I'll add Maskerade.
Yay! Maybe I'll actually try to write something for it now.
Re: P.S. A suggestion
No, you aren't. These are all totally valid questions and interpretations; unfortunately, I don't think there's ever going to be consensus on any cataloging or organizational schema.

They make my small fandom world beautiful and happy.
(Have I mentioned recently how excited I am about this archive? I'm rereading Maskerade and then I'm tackling Leroux again in hopes I will be inspired to write. In the mean time I am bookmarking stories to review....)
Re: P.S. A suggestion
I'm so glad you like the archive. I'm hoping I can do it justice--I'm already running into the "what do I do about the bad stuff?" problem. But I don't want to cut people out, you know?

Re: P.S. A suggestion
BTW, would you like a list of major characters (~7) in Maskerade (most of them aren't direct analogues)? I don't know how much you want to sort for that one (I can't even remember if you're one of the people who hates Pratchett).
Re: P.S. A suggestion
I know I make little sense--there's some pretty similar humor I do find funny. I just can't get with him.
Re: P.S. A suggestion
Anyway, what I think are the main characters people might write about (and not making the list too long):
Agnes Nitt/Perdita
Christine
Walter Plinge
The Ghost
Andre
Granny Weatherwax
Nanny Ogg
Re: P.S. A suggestion
But yeah; those guys can be added. I might parenthesize the canon after them.
