Fandom, shipping, and memes!
The "and" is misleading, I know. It's really all one thing. Borrowed from
lafemmedarla.
I undertake this meme with the following clarifications: There's not really any ship I won't read, if it comes recommended or is written by someone I like. I'm much more attached to quality than specific pairings. That said, I'll ship Spike with anyone. Likewise The Phantom, as I feel there's plenty of territory left to mine.
Six ships you like:
01. Erik/Persian
02. Spike/Buffy
03. Kirk/Spock
04. Doctor/Turlough
05. Logan/Rogue (movieverse)
06. Mulder/Scully
Three ships you used to like, but don't anymore:
07. Erik/Christine
08. Spike/Willow
09. Holmes/Russell
Three ships in your various fandoms that you can't stand:
10. Buffy/Angel
11. Spock/Christine Chapel
12. Jack Harkness/anyone
Two ships you're curious about but haven't actually started shipping:
13. Christine/Meg
14. Spike/Dawn
1. Why do you dislike #11 so much?
Spock/Christine Chapel. I just can't stand Majel Barrett. I mean, it's not her fault or anything, but it always seemed like they were trying to make her more attractive and act younger than she looked. I probably would have been okay with her if her interest in Spock hadn't seemed so forced. I do like the story about how she was cut out of the original cast on studio orders and then re-inserted with a blonde wig, but it doesn't mean I can stand the idea of her with Spock. I haven't read any of this fic, but it seems abundant. Maybe I should.
2. Who is someone you know that ships #13?
Christine/Meg. Other than me, in an embryonic sort of way? I don't know if anyone does. But I don't know if anyone would object, either.
3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3 (even if the show isn't on the air anymore)?
Kirk/Spock. I think that the show itself was shippy enough to be ideal; we got just enough of their passion for each other to keep it going. I mean, Spock's a Vulcan, and I don't want any OOC spilling-over of feelings. We know they care for each other, and while I enjoy reading fic where they show this sexually, I want it to be pretty much set within the parameters of the show.
4. Which is your favorite episode for #1? Try to pick just one, if you can
Erik/Persian. Oh. I guess I forgot this was a tv show thing. Um... it's all good, but I like the bit in the book where Erik's beating his heels on the boat and taunting the Persian and the Persian's all torn between being afraid and being amused.
5. How long have you been following couple #6?
Mulder/Scully. Since the beginning of Season 5, when I first started watching the show. Though my focus in the relationship quickly moved from Mulder to Scully, as I realized she was more interesting.
6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring?
Spike/Willow. Nothing, really; I think my interest was sparked by some good, hot fic, and I just got tired of it. Canonically, it doesn't work very well for me, so there wasn't any subtext for me to invest in.
7. Which ship do you prefer - #2 or #4?
Spike/Buffy vs. Doctor/Turlough. Spike/Buffy all the way, I'm afraid. It's just way too hot and angsty.
8. You have the power to make one ship non existent. Choose from #10 or #12.
Buffy/Angel vs. Jack Harkness/anyone. Definitely Jack. B/A is a totally valid ship, and probably if I didn't harbor so much irrational dislike of David Boreanaz, I'd like it a lot better. Then again, Jack being supremely annoying to me is probably also an actor thing. But anyway, the fact that Jack is omnisexual and yet I don't want him to sex anyone pisses me off.
9. What interests you about #14?
Spike/Dawn? The wrongness, plain and simple. Their relationship is, at times, fabulous. They're adorable in a little sister/big bad brother sort of way. Which is why they probably *shouldn't* get together, but also why it's irresistably attractive to me. But I've never really found GREAT Spike/Dawn fic.
10. When did you stop liking #7
I don't dislike Erik/Christine. It's not a moratorium on E/C fic. But I was definitely a rabid, fangirly E/C shipper as a teen. I "left" fandom for awhile, and came back precisely because when I started thinking about it again, I realized E/C in a fluffy, happily-ever-after sense was ridiculous. I'm still up for realistic E/C fic, just not for the pairing's own sake.
11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the show?
Holmes/Russell. Well it's a series of books, and yeah, I guess it did. I found them more compelling as mentor/student with a weird sexual edge. Once married, Russell in particular became less interesting to me.
12. What's a song that reminds you of #5?
Logan/Rogue. "Can't Touch This"?
13. Which of these ships do you love the most?
Reading (and porn) habits-wise, it's Spike/Buffy. Intellectually, Erik/Persian.
14. Which do you dislike the most?
Spock/Christine Chapel
15. If you could have any of these two pairings double date, who would it be?
Mulder/Scully and Kirk/Spock. These are the only two I could actually see getting on and having a really fun time.
16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if you'd like.
Spike/Buffy? I think the show elaborated that enough.
17. Did #4 have a happy ending? If the show hasn't ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely?
Doctor/Turlough. Show hasn't precisely ended, but the Doctor'll never have a happy-ending-with-Companion thing.
18. What would make you start shipping #13?
Christine/Meg. Getting off my ass and writing it.
19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer - #2 or #6?
Spike/Buffy wins over Mulder/Scully. Canonically, S/B was dealt with a lot better than M/S. I don't really need Mulder and Scully to get together; their UST was better than anything they could have done on the show.
20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them?
Exactly what already did: Angel moves away and moves on, Buffy gets with Spike. I'd alter the latter so that Spike didn't make that ridiculous stand of not telling her he was alive.

Me too, but I tend to be less interested in "normal" lives like Clark Kent's and Peter Parker's. That is, their normal lives really are normal. Bruce Wayne's "normal" life on the other hand is Super Fucked Up, so it interests me more. I have thoughts on this but I'm not going to ramble.
One of my major problems with movie!Peter's RL is I HATE Kirsten Dunst with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. Like you hate Claire Danes or something. She just GETS ON MY NERVES WITH HER GODDAMN GIRLY VOICE AND LAZY EYS.

Oh, hey. Like Buffy.
It's not like Peter's life is *easy*.
I'm sorry you hate Kirsten Dunst. That would, definitely, alter one's perception. (Although I'm quite capable of watching Claire Danes if I have to, and actually like Shopgirl.)

On the other hand, it is simultaneously interesting to me when "normal" people are forced to dovetail their fucked up with their normal lives.
Oh, hey. Like Buffy.
Buffy is special. She wins at everything.
I'm capable of watching Dunst; I just don't like her. I'm glad you liked Shopgirl. That was quite an unusual movie, imo.

Some other time.
Re: Shopgirl
Yeah, it was. I liked its treatment of depression, and the whole structure of how he's playing himself in a movie he wrote about a real situation where he doesn't come off as terribly sympathetic, *and* with art by the actual woman it happened with, fascinates me.
