I'm posting this as a comment in case you have to flee the internets before I post the posty-post.

Unpopular POTO opinions:

*Julian Sands is hot.
*Erik/Christine should explore the deep problems of the characters and their relationship.
*ALW is a hack.
*There should be more crack!fic.
*Movie!fic is totally okay if the author deals with the characters rationally and not like the movie did (in my opinion).
*Gaston Leroux was not a genius. He wrote a book that tapped into something, which makes it interesting and important. It is not a "work of art." It's pretty awesome, though. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

--'cept the Crack!fic one, but...that may be because I don't read much fanfic, and I'm not really sure what "crack" fic is.

It has different definitions; I think it's often considered pejorative ("someone had to be ON CRACK to write that!") but has also been applied to a gleeful release of the need to make perfect sense. I think POTO fandom takes itself pretty seriously, and a few "Erik becomes a cat" fics, written well I must stress, would amuse me.

For me, crack!fic is fanfiction that operates from a premise that's totally ridiculous, but does it well.

Julian Sands is hot.

That is not a matter for opinion.

I have seen him many times, out and and about in Boston, and to say he is hot is to say that water is two hydrogen molecules bonded to oxygen. It are fact.

Forgive the caps. You have seen the Sands. In person. I will commence to die from jealousy. And regret no longer living in Boston.

This is, by the way, an unpopular opinion in phandom, where Mr. Sands is viewed as "the not-deformed Phantom" except for how greasy and icky he is.

Sat one seat over from him at the movies once, even. I don't know why, but he was here a lot in the late 80s, early 90s. Used to see him a lot around Harvard when I worked there.

He's ENORMOUS. And so is his wedding band. And he is oh so very blond and so very much better-looking in person than on screen.
