Commissioned

Some recent portraits I've completed for the holiday season. I still have very mixed feelings about this endeavor, as I cannot call it "art" but cannot reconcile myself to the production of it otherwise. But I like how these turned out.

How is it not art? Those are lovely!

Well, if I traced I wouldn't get that. I'd get a mess of squiggles. And you convey personalities too.

there is NOTHING WRONG WITH TRACING!!!!!!!!! The Pre-Raphaelites would have thought that tracing from photos was the highest form of art (only they didn't have photos so had to make everything hyper realistic with their eyes which is harder but still the same basic concept).

Your work is art. I has a degree in knowing what is art so I win. Now accept it or I'll have to get the clue stick.

P.S. what do you think I do?

P.P.S. DevArt says the pictures just shipped will post some photos when they are hung.

i once did this with a photo of mulder and scully, and it took quite some time to get all the details right. i think, between the time commitment and the fact people are commissioning you for it, it could definitely be called art.

I love Tahari the best. The personality just shines through.

I really like the white-on-white of "Tahari."

Please don't worry about whether it's "art" or not - you enjoy making them; people enjoy having them in their homes. Sounds like win-win to me.

I love the middle one bestest! They all look great. Nice abstract backgrounds on top and bottom. Especially like the wavy green stripes (still love our stairs, even if they're so dirty :o(

Love what you did with P's shirt! Dress! Outfit! ...veil? I dunno the coloring and patternings on the lavender are very cool and detailed, sort of realistic without being too much so. Nice job! I clap!

My dog was named Misha. People called it Meesha sometimes but it was pronounced mish as in mash. Plus he was a he and people thought he was a she. He was named after a bear. A sleeping bear, in fact.

P.S.

I love how you left the background on Tahari white. That was a fine decision.

Oh and it's totally art don't be such a poseur. No, really, I know that this is a personal thing, but I think it's a very artistic thing you do, for what it's worth.

The white background was my fiendish plan to make Kris do less work. I'm sowing the seeds of sloth. >:}

But it worked brilliantly! Excellent suggestion.

P.S. We love that you commented on a comment I made in Kris's journal from downstairs ;o)

Well where else would I have commented on it?

I shall leave the house to make further LJ comments--in fact, I'm presently in the back yard! (lies)

Also, yes, its pretty awesome, I made it myself with my very own screencaps. As I did this one.

...I think it was the fact we were both upstairs when you did it. It's like im'ing from across the room. Wrong and so good at the same time. See now I am commenting from work which isn't half so funny. Particularly because UGH, work.

Hope you're having a good day ;o)
