Quote of the day: Phantom as Star Trek
-John Mathieson, cinematographer for the 2004 Phantom of the Opera
So my challenge to you: who's who? Any crew, but I prefer TOS and TNG because I know them better. And DS9 (but we already know Bashir is the Persian). Basically I don't know Voyager and Enterprise. And whatever POTO canon you can shoehorn 'em into.
Personally, I want Kirk to play everything.

Maybe ... Kes (from Voyager) as Christine? or Maybe if we want to think really outside of the box, Data.
In that scenario, Raoul would be Tasha Yar and the Phantom/Erik would be Lor.
I don't know anything about any of the other characters, but I suppose that Dr. Soong would be Madame Giry. I have no clue who would be the Persian because I don't remember that character from the movie. (Sorry!! I know that my slip is showing!)
lol!!! I really wish that I did know more about the movie.

Heeeee. Data!Christine. I said she should be 7 of 9. Hot blonde, can't think for herself...yeah, that's it!
no subject
I totally second guessed myself on Kes because I thought that maybe she had a little too much spunk. Seven of Nine would work. With Janeway as her Raoul or maybe the Doctor. AND the Borg Queen as the Phantom? Maybe I'm trying to make everyone too related ...

Hee! Q! And Wesley is perfect. Riker!Meg is just scary, but at least he's got that trombone thing down. Data can do that shifty-eye thing.
Now for the ALW/TOS version
Spock - Andre

You are so mean to them. ILU. WHO IS PIANGI? YEOMAN RAND?
7 of 9 (she's Borg) - Christine
I know what she looks like and stuff, and a lot of the characters' names, just not much about personality. For some Christines, Borg is about right.

Only Wesley is annoying enough to be Meg...
Chekov would be innocent enough to be Raoul.
I think only Voyager has characters gullable enough to be Christine, Kes or 7 of 9. Though I do like the idea of Data as Christine....

And I will near no slurs on Shatner's acting talent. I think he's quite good in the early tv series. I am completely serious. Then again, I have come to the conclusion that one person's charm is another person's ham, so it's all a matter of taste. Still, I'd love to see him as Carlotta!
no subject
I'm not bashing his talent! I love Shatner in all his over the top Shakespearean glory. I was just quoting Calculon! (could have been worse, could have been Zap Branigan: The Velour Fog). I like that Shatner can laugh at himself and I have enough drama school training to know he would have been awesome on stage, it just translates to the screen as over the top cheese. Besides he gave the world the phrases "I don't say 'sabotage'. YOU say 'sabotage', I say 'saboTAGE'" and "don't tell me how to act, it sickens me" without which the world would be a sadder place.
Oh and this-

And LOL to the song. I hadn't heard it before. Awesome.
And yes, it's at my desk. I don't like to have to explain to people I'm a geek.

Yes very.... special :D I hope the new Kirk can live up to his awesomeness

I don't see any way this can possible happen, especially since it looks like they cast for looks. Not that they didn't cast Shatner for looks, too, but I think they'd have done better going with someone less perfect-looking and more attitude-appropriate. But we'll see, eh?

To be fair, his album of original material (Has Been) is really good, IMO...

Now I'm gonna have to check that album :P

This cold medication is making think weirder than usual.
Original Series Cast
Bad Kirk = Philippe (we have to split them up to get the proper effect. And weren't Raoul and Philippe as characters combined somewhat in the Charles Dance POTO version?)
Spock = Persian (rational on the outside, all emotional and gooey on the inside. Besides, there's always room for Raoul/Persian slash too ... LOL)
Uhuru = Christine (she sings, and she thinks Kirk/Raoul is hot - but she'd like a little more Bad Kirk in the mix.)
Khan = Erik. Remember him, Mr. "Better to rule in hell than serve in heaven?" And I could see Khan being attracted to Uhuru/Christine; she would give him a run for his money.
Janet Rand = Sorelli (she thinks Bad Kirk/Philippe is hot)
Nurse Chapel = Mme. Giry (she's kind of a fussypants)
Marla McGyver = Meg (sorry, Meg, no Khan/Erik for you this go-around)
Heh, that was fun!

I like the split of the good Kirk and the bad Kirk :)

I love Bashir as the Persian looks-wise, but I like the idea of the worldly-wise Garak as the Persian - then I can make the boyish Bashir Raoul and have some Persian/Raoul (Garak/Bashir) slash.
I like the idea of Odo, with his weird face and lovely voice and unrequited love vibe, as Erik.
TOS? I don't know, as long as Spock gets to be the Persian.

Yeah. I think Siddig is a great Persian *now*, but back then I could definitely see Raoul.

Can see that, too! Who's Christine?

Christine is quite tough, I think. Is there anyone vacillating and disingenuous enough in the entire Trek universe to fill the shoes? ;)
no subject
I think that Christine is difficult, unless you make Christine a more decisive character--and change the story a little. Oh, maybe Deanna, whom I dislike but is very sensitive.

Now pardon my delving into particular episodes for the rest: I'd look to "Requiem for Methuselah" to provide the romantic triangle of Flint/Rayna/Kirk for Erik/Christine/Raoul. Remember--Flint, the near-immortal genius who had been da Vinci, Brahms, and countless others? The one who created Rayna, the perfect android, out of his own loneliness? Recall that Flint permitted Rayna to get to know Kirk in hopes of arousing her emotions--and then Flint got uncontrollably, violently jealous. Something about that older man's voyeurism for the young pair seems very POTO. At the end, Rayna short-circuits and dies from her conflicting love for the older man (father/mentor) and the younger man (lover). Kirk's closing line was something like: "An old and foolish man... and a young and foolish man.... We put on a pretty poor show, didn't we?" An alternate POTO could have come to the same ending.
I put in my vote for Elaan of Troyius as Carlotta. I'd have lots of hortas in the cellars making tunnels for Erik. Erik would have the shape-changing salt monster do some of his murders. For the opera managers, I'd choose two characters from "The Trouble with Tribbles": space trader Cyrano Jones and uptight administrator Nilz Barris. And I'd have to find some role for Alexander the dwarf--wait, wasn't there a dwarf opera singer in the POTO movie?
But actually, the creepiest Erik I can come up with would be a forty-years-older Charlie X, having gone into long seclusion with alien-given powers, now more brilliant and far more bitter. Can't you picture him kidnapping some young thing who reminds him of Janice Rand? And he wouldn't just be thwacking her on the behind...
Gosh, I could waste much too much time on this topic!

Oh my goodness yes.

That's kind of brilliant. I like it. And I'm impressed. I love the hortas!

This would be amazing. Thanks for your thoughts!!

How about Harcourt Fenton Mudd as one of the managers? He's already the impresario type.
Excellent call with the "Requiem for Methusaleh" story, with the focus on the "old man/young woman" vs. "young man rival." Rayna short-circuiting and dying does have an echo at the end of the 2004 movie - only movie!Christine's death is longer and slower. That's probably where the "Crazy Christine" trope comes from, where she's made mad by her internal conflicts over the two men.
