She rolled her eyes. Had to be Mulder, then.
"Of course we’ll help."
"I don’t know where I am, where it’s going. You won’t tell him, will you?" They exchanged discrete glances, secretly flattered that she’d singled them out for relationship advice. Finally.
"You get to a certain level and it just seems futile." Frohike noted the lock of hair she pushed out of frustrated eyes, Byers the shadowed valley below, and all three wondered why Mulder hadn’t made his move. Her husky voice dropped even lower and they leaned forward.
"Help me beat Doom," she breathed.

They were both bald. With the resolute humor of military men. Add to that their mutual love of Moby-Dick, and it made Scully lose a little of her infamous cool.
But only one of them could make her lose it so completely that she didn’t much care whether she found it again. Ahab had left Starbuck to fend for herself. Jean-Luc had not stayed either, but he had taken her with him and showed her worlds Mulder had only dreamed of. She had not shared the dream, but the reality was something she understood.
Starbuck finally sailed among the stars.
